Build your case for a raise or promotion

Walk in with a short deck, not a feeling.

The problem

You know you're doing more than your title says. You've known for months. But "I work really hard" isn't a case, and your manager's boss needs something they can forward. This guide turns your wins into five slides and a two-minute script.

What you need

  • A list of what you did this year, messy is fine (old emails, performance notes, praise you saved)
  • Your job title, city and years of experience
  • 30 minutes
  • The free plan works (web search is on the free plan; Claude Slides is in beta on paid plans, from Pro at $20/month, so on free you'll get an outline to paste into Google Slides or PowerPoint)

What's new

  • Sep 16, 2026 On Pro and up, Claude Slides (beta) turns your outline into a real deck right in the chat. You can present it from Claude or download it as PowerPoint or PDF. (Anthropic)

Steps

  1. Open a new chat on claude.ai and paste your messy wins list under the prompt below.
  2. Answer Claude's questions. It will push you for numbers and for who noticed.
  3. Read the market section and open every source link. If a number has no link, don't use it.
  4. Copy the 5-slide outline into your slides tool, or, on Pro and up, ask Claude to turn it into a presentation.
  5. Practice the script out loud once. Ask Claude: "Play my manager and push back on slide 4."

Help me build a short case for a [RAISE / PROMOTION / TITLE CHANGE].
My role: [TITLE], [YEARS] years, in [CITY OR REMOTE].

1. From my notes below, pull my 5 strongest wins. For each: what I did, the result, and who it helped. If a win is missing a number or a result, ask me before writing it.
2. Search the web for the pay range for my role and location from 2-3 credible sources. Give the link for every number. Mark anything you couldn't verify.
3. Show me where I'm already working at the next level: which responsibilities of [NEXT TITLE] I'm doing now.
4. Turn it into a 5-slide outline: 1) what I'm asking for, 2) my top wins, 3) the bigger scope I already carry, 4) the market range with sources, 5) what I'll take on next.
5. Write a 2-minute script I can say out loud, plus answers to the 3 pushbacks I'm most likely to hear.
Don't exaggerate anything. Use only what I gave you or what you can link to.

My notes:
[PASTE YOUR WINS]

What it looks like filled in

A support team lead with four years in the role pasted a messy list: "trained the new hires, fixed the refund backlog, covered the manager on leave." Claude asked three questions (how many new hires, how big was the backlog, how long the coverage lasted), then wrote:

Claude

Slide 3 · Scope I already carry: Trained all 6 new hires this year. Cleared a 400-ticket refund backlog in 3 weeks. Ran the team for 2 months during a leave.

Three lines her manager can forward without rewriting.

Takeaway

Your wins don't speak for themselves. Write them down, attach the proof, and ask for one specific thing.
